Education Outreach

Replant New Orleans is dedicated to promoting knowledge and awareness among the citizens and volunteers of New Orleans as to the quality and condition of the urban environment. Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency admitted that serious gaps in knowledge and public outreach are contributing to major environmental problems. Often, urban residents do not know how toxic their cities are.

Replant New Orleans develops community workshops, distributes educational materials, and encourages New Orleans residents to learn composting techniques, how to maintain a worm bin and brew compost tea, and to use plants to clean the soil. Our workshops promote easily communicated information and grassroots involvement.

Workshops are held in communal spaces, amongst neighbors, and in the context of community gardens. Replant New Orleans has developed care packets for the various types of trees that we plant, along with informational brochures, pamphlets, and books on the topics of bioremediation and soil quality. These are distributed to community members through our Resource Library, at workshops, and through organizations such as churches, neighborhood associations, and community gardens.
